The Chief of Kedzi in the Anlo Traditional Area of the Volta Region, Torgbe Wenya is appealing to the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department, CID, the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, IGP, and the Office of the Chief Justice to intervene and facilitate the release of the body of his deceased niece, Hodeshie Baccah who died through unorthodox abortion for the family to give her a befitting burial.

Torgbe Wenya who together with his family is grieving the loss of their 32 year old daughter since June 2018, revealed that he lost the niece, Hodeshi Baccah through unsafe abortion suspectedly carried by a fetish priestess, Minawor Tofa Babanao in the priestess residence at Kedji in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region.

He stated that the Priestess upon interrogation has admitted to giving the deceased some herbal concoction which she made the deceased bathed leading to her death. Torgbe Wenya further indicated that he has lodged an official complaint at the Keta Municipal Police Command but little was done to prosecute the fetish priestess and also to give justice to his family.

He narrated that the lackadaisical attitude of the Keta Police in prosecuting the case made him to petition the Director General of CID to intervene in the matter.
He alleged that the only thing done by the CID was to take the body to the Kole-Bu Teaching Hospital Mortuary with the promise to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the real cause of her death, lamenting that since June 2018 the autopsy was not done and the family’s request to have their late daughter’s body released for burial was also not honoured.
