Former deputy communications minister under the former president Mahama’s administration, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has revealed the intention of the NPP government to borrow GHS 27 billion per the 2020 budget statement.
In a post made on social media which was sighted by WestAfrica24.com, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency wrote;
“The 2020 budget shows that government intends to borrow GHS 27 billion next year. This means that all things being equal, our public debt will hover around GHS 230 billion by the end of next year.
That means also, that GHS 110 billion would have been added to our public debt in four years by the man who in opposition claimed borrowing was anathema and a lazy approach to governance.
To put this in perspective, President Akufo Addo would have borrowed as much as almost the entire public debt from 1957 to 2016 in four years. Worryingly enough, he wouldn’t have done even a quarter of what his predecessor did in terms of capital projects“.
