The former Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, joined the numorous women in Greater Accra Region to file her nomination last Friday, July 19, 2019, to contest for the upcoming National Democratic Congress, NDC, Parliamentary primaries slated for next month.
The former MCE for the area, was very optimistic of winning the Parliamentary primaries and go ahead to snatch the seat from the NPP.
In submitting her nomination forms at the party office, Hon. Odoley Sowah and her supporters stormed the party office admist drumming and dancing all the way from La township where she responded to cheers from many market women and the on-lookers, who were also calling for the return of the NDC.
Briefing media men at La on her motivation to contest after addressing party delegates, Hon. Odoley Sowah highlighted her efforts towards building harmony within the NDC in La Dade-Kotopon ahead of elections 2020 when she wins the primaries.
She further told the media that her motivation to join race was in response to the plight of La people especially People With Disability, PWD, as well as the NDC as a whole in the area.
She mentioned a number of projects to her credit when she was the MCE for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly including the resurfacing of the roads, new Assembly office complex she lobbied for and yet complete new market complex amongst others.
As a mother, she paid for the training of young ladies in various skills to enable them to also make a meaningful living; aside the scholarship package to students who now gain employment to teach in some Senior High School in La.
Madam Odoley Sowah has passion for social justice, considering her background and tries to assist people, this makes her a mother and the ideal candidate for a demanding position in politics.
“We had six men on a role as MPs for La Dade-Kotopon Constituency, and the time has com for me, a woman to also come in with my lobbying skills to further help with the development of La”, she pointed out.
“…..since the NDC handed over power the governing NPP cannot point at a single project they have initiated and completed here in La Dade-Kotopon”, the former MCE opined.
Addressing his supporters, candidate Odoley Sowah appealed to them to ensure they carry out a clean campaign without insults and attacks on other contestants and their followers since everyone will be needed going into 2020 elections.
She stressed on the need for a strong unity within the party during and after the primaries to face the failed ruling New Patriotic Party led by ‘old man’ Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020.
The former Hon. MCE, Rita Odoley Sowah expressed her gratitude to the constituency executives, delegates & party members for their continuous commitment, loyalty and dedication towards the NDC party activities and the agenda to wrestle power from the clueless, incompetent, inept and nepotistic government of the Nana Addo administration.
The Constituency Secretary, Edem Nyamador and the Election Directorate, said it’s a friendly contest, therefore, the leaders and their supporters should be mindful and campaign with good messages devoid of personalisation and attacks.
