The Ledzokuku Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Ben Ayiku is set for a keen contest with the former legislature for the area, Mrs. Benita Sena Okiti Dua for the position of Parliamentary candidate.
Last Friday, July 19, 2019 Ben Ayiku has filed his nomination forms in the evening after he presented his resignation letter to enable him to contest for the NDC primaries which is slated for Saturday, August 24, 2019.
Mr. Ayiku stormed the party office with huge number of teeming party followers amidst drumming and dancing, after he cut sod for the construction of new constituency office complex for the party in the area.
The ceremony brought together the former Deputy Fisheries Minister, Mrs. Sena Okiti Dua and her supporters; Ben Ayiku and his supporters and the NDC gurus in the area including former Municipal Chief Executive Office of the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly, Daniel Amartey all of whom took their turn to address the gathering.
Mr. Ayiku after filing expressed optimism of winning the Parliamentary primaries to go ahead to snatch the seat for the NDC.
Speaking in an interview with Westafrica24.com at Teshie a suburb of Accra, Mr. Ayiku stated that he stands the chance to bring the needed unity amongst the NDC in Ledzorkuku Constituency which could make it easy to deliver the seat for the party going into 2020 general elections.
The business tycoon indicated that the NDC needs its ‘baby’ (seat) back and this could only be achieved by first presenting someone who would not bring ‘skirt and top’ votes as it was in last 2016 elections.
At the sod cuting ceremony, the supporters of both Candidates, Sena Okiti Dua and Ben Ayiku were appealed to ensure they carry out a clean campaign without any insults and attacks because the NDC wants unity amongst the party members to take seat from the NPP.
Mr. Ayiku invited the former Deputy Minister and MP, Mrs. Bennitta Okiti Dua who graciously graced the event where it really shows the upcoming primaries was going to be a very friendly contest.
Sena pledged 1,000 blocks and 100 bags of cement for construction of the NDC new office complex on which the land has been procured by the out-gone constituency chairman, Mr. Ayiku.
One Seth Nii Attoh, who stepped down to support Mr. Ayiku also contributed 1,000 blocks at site ahead of the sod cutting.
The speakers at the event stressed on the need for a strong unity within the party during and after the primaries to face the inept, clueless and super incompetent NPP government.
