NDC youth organizer for the newly created Bono Region, Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo has thrown shades at the former information minister and current Minister for Zongo and Inner Cities Development, Dr. Mustapha Hamid for his already approved “1 zongo, 1 football team initiative”

In a statement which was cited by WestAfrica 24, Efo Worlanyo was quoted saying “Dr. Mustapha is really a disappointment because as a zongo boy he claimed he is, should know that the priorities of our Youth is not about football teams but the economic empowerment for the Youth and our women”

“The policy is to establish a Zongo football team in every Zongo and constituencies so that they can play a community, constituency and Regional football gala and proceed to join the National Zongo team, Dr. Mustapha revealed.

According to him the Minister said the Zongo Football teams “was a project he think will transform the lives of the Youth and the Zongo community because when they are playing football the women can also sell water, orange and kulikuli which will Economically empower them”

“Personally am still shocked to the bone why a whole Minister spent my tax, moved from Accra to Berekum to tell my people as part of government policy he want to establish zongo football team instead of thinking of viable ideas to transform our Zongo communities. No wonder he is same to tell the Zongo communities he will bring experts from United States to teach them how to prepare waakye, hausa koko, Tz and the rest as a policy for the zongo communities from his Ministry.”

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS

BONO REGIONAL YOUTH WING.

For Immediate Release:

05/07/19.

DR. MUSTAPHA HAMID’S ONE ZONGO, ONE FOOTBALL TEAM POLICY AN INSULT TO THE YOUTH.

Am surprised why the Zongo communities are being taken for granted by NPP who in the 2016 elections paraded themselves as icons of the Zongos.

In 2018 Dr Bawumia visited the Berekum Zongo Mosque in the Bono Region and promised the Chief Iman 500bags of cement during the fasting season for them to complete the Berekum Central mosque and since then has not redeem his promise to our Muslim community.

He also promised them to continue and complete the Zongo roads started by NDC before the end of 2018 but till date the constructor has not return to site.

On the 3rd day of July 2019, Dr Hamid the Zongo Minister visited the Chief Imam, opinion leaders and the Youth of Berekum to brief them on his vision and governments plan for the Zongos under the Zongo Development Fund.

The people in Berekum were happy because they felt their roads which NDC started and was left unattended to will be part of government’s agenda.

They were happy because they thought the Minister had come to redeem the pledge of the vice president.

They were happy because the zongo community thought the expansion project on their clinic which was constructed by the NDC will resume.

Our people were happy because the assembly men in that area had met and discussed their plans of empowering the women and Youth with a comprehensive plan they thought the Minister could buy into.

To the surprise of the opinion leaders that include the Chief Imam, Chiefs, Imams, Youth, assembly members, the zongo Minister came to the meeting 5hours late than the time he promised the people.

He further surprised my people with his vision as the zongo Minister:

1.He said to transform the zongo community, his Ministry with cabinet approval had endorsed and approved a policy for the Zongo Youth and their entire community.

2.He said the policy is to establish a Zongo football team in every Zongo and constituencies so that they can play a community, constituency and Regional football gala and proceed to join the National Zongo team.(One Zongo, One Football team).

3. He said it was a project he think will transform the lives of the Youth and the Zongo community because when they are playing football the women can also sell water, orange and kulikuli which will Economically empower them.

Seriously everyone was disappointed including his NPP constituency team he went there with.

Dr. Mustapha is really a disappointment because as a zongo boy he claimed he is, should know that the priorities of our Youth is not about football teams but the economic empowerment for the Youth and our women.

Personally am still shocked to the bone why a whole Minister spent my tax, moved from Accra to Berekum to tell my people as part of government policy he want to establish zongo football team instead of thinking of viable ideas to transform our Zongo communities. No wonder he is same to tell the Zongo communities he will bring experts from United States to teach them how to prepare waakye, hausa koko, Tz and the rest as a policy for the zongo communities from his Ministry.

We therefore call on the Minister to apologise to the Zongo Youth for the insults and disgrace he has subjected them to and go back to the drawing board and bring out innovative ideas to help our Youth.

Am now convinced the Zongo Ministry lack ideas and need to be schooled on idea generation.

Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo
Bono Regional Youth Organizer, NDC.
